Georgia Retina Foundation
The Mission of the Georgia Retina Foundation is to provide funding for vision research, especially into disorders of the retina, vitreous and macula, to support community education and make accessible specialized eye care for those in need.
The trustees of the Foundation, experienced retinal specialists, are committed to the challenge of improving and restoring vision by the utilization of the most advanced techniques available.
The retina is like the film in the back of a camera, located in the back of the eye. It is a highly complex structure that processes visual information and transmits it to the brain. Diseases that affect the retina are common, and have a major impact on the lives of millions of people in the United States and abroad. These include age-related macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy, retinal detachment, uveitis, congenital retinal dystrophies and ocular trauma.
The Foundation explores and develops new approaches to these, and other conditions. Funding facilitates studies of new medical and surgical methods, development of new surgical instruments and devices, as well as public education and awareness. This highly specialized field is extremely dependent on state-of-the-art technology.
Gifts to the Foundation make it possible to provide and maintain the most current equipment for vision research, as well as to renovate and expand Foundation facilities. Substantial capital is required to add new technology, so as to ensure world-class care. Additionally, significant funding is needed to provide grants for patients with limited financial means to undergo vision-saving surgery.
